A Japanese diver has been visiting his best friend fish for over 25 years

A very interesting fact about fish: they can recognise people’s faces

We are used to seeing human friendship with dogs, cats and farm animals, and when a diver and a fish became friends it was a real amazement for everyone. And also they are friends for over 25 years.

It all started when a diver named Hiroyuki Arakawa was sent to oversee the construction of a “torii” many years ago. But as it was very deep, he often had to dive to see the site’s condition. And doing it every day the man came to know all the aquatic animals living there. And especially he has a strong relationships with a wrasse fish named Yoriko.

And although it may sound strange, Hiroyuki and Yoriko became really best friends. And they won’t see each other again. Although it sounds strange, scientists have discovered an answer for this. Fishes turned out to be remembering human faces.

“Scientists showed two human faces to fish and trained them to pick one by spitting their jets at it. The scientists made it even more difficult. They changed the photos to black and white, but even after that the animals correctly identified the familiar faces with 86% accuracy.” And here’s a fact you didn’t know about fish!
